About The Event
Peter Oyler and Eric Windeler (Founder and Executive Director of Jack.org) at Jack Ride 2015.
mindset CYCLING founder and owner Peter Oyler is very committed to raising awareness of child and youth mental health and wellness. Peter has been involved with the cause, first with the Peter Oyler Spring Classic for Kids Help Phone in 2007, and then, with Jack.org, since day one. Peter has also raised funds and awareness for youth mental health while competing in ultracycling events, including the Race Across America (RAAM). In the spirit of ultracycling for a cause, the mindset CYCLING community is excited to host its own cycle-thon event in support of youth mental health awareness.
The 4hr cycle-thon at mindset CYCLING will allow up to 30 cyclists to ride at one time. 24 riders can hook up their bikes to computrainers, and six more can ride on Inside Ride rollers (if you choose to ride the rollers, everybody on your team must be able to ride the rollers for the duration of their shift). Bathrooms, change rooms, showers and towels will be available on site.
For a generation of young people raised on the internet, social
media, and text messaging, the traditional approach to mental health
awareness and stigma reduction just isn’t working. It’s time to think
outside the box.
Jack.org is the only national network of young
leaders transforming the way we think about mental health. With
initiatives and programs designed for young people, by young people, we
will end stigma in our generation.
Jack.org's core programs
include a network of student chapters on campuses across the country, a
speakers bureau with young talented presenters who give talks at school
assemblies and other events, and national summit which brings students
from across Canada to downtown Toronto to develop innovative strategies
for improving the mental health of their communities.
